Will creature abilities activate heroic?

Asked by zekingfx 11 years ago

Like if i activate Phalanx Leader, will his skill activate another heroic?

Phalanx Leader

No. Heroic states in the ability that it triggers on the casting of a spell that targets the creature. Abilities are not spells, and are not cast.

Again, only -spells- which you -cast- (instants, sorceries, and aura enchantments, pretty much) which target (using the word -target-) will trigger heroic.

Something which applies to all creatures does not target unless it actually says "All target creatures" which I don't believe anything does.

Even if Heroic triggered via abilities (which it doesn't) Phalanx Leader doesn't target anything. Something you want to consider if a triggered effect or ability is based off of something being targeted. I.E. Illusionary Servant would not have to be sacrificed by Phalanx Leader placing counters on it.

Note that heroic isn't activated. It's a triggered ability. It triggers.

So to my understanding from above, if i have Phalanx Leader out and place Kinsbaile Skirmisher and put the +1/+1 on Phalanx that will not tirgger the heroic effect, correct? Now what if you have Ajani Steadfast and/or Paragon of New Dawns and use their abilities? Since i am useing Mana and/or loyaty would they to be considered spells? or does it HAVE to be a Sorcery, Instant, or Enchantment card for the trigger to take effect?

First, check the post dates before you comment. Ask a new question instead of responding to an old one.

Second, as was explained above, spells are not abilities, and abilities are not spells. A spell is a card, or a copy of a card, on the stack. Please read the given answers before asking a followup question.
