When exactly can I cast flash and instant spells?

Asked by WalzY 12 years ago

May I cast them at the start of my opponent's turn before he untaps his mana? I'm thinking of Aurelia's Fury here. Same for creatures like Snapcaster Mage with flash..?

Similarly, may I do the same on their end step (after they've passed their second main phase)?

Yup. As a generality, you may cast instants and creature spells with Flash anytime you have priority. On your opponent's turn, he has priority before you are able to take any actions, but once he passes priority to you (generally to advance to the next step or phase), you may cast spells or activate abilities.

No, you cannot cast before the untap step, as no player receives priority before then. The earliest you can cast it is during their upkeep, before they draw a card. This is the first time priority is given to anyone.

To the second question, though, yes, you can cast it during his end step.

Somehow I read upkeep step instead of untap step. No to first question, yes to second.
