When does a player need to respond to Felhide Spiritbinder inspired ability?

Asked by ozzar 9 years ago

Let's say I have out a Felhide Spiritbinder and a Kragma Warcaller . The spiritbinder's inspired ability triggers and I pay the 1R to put a token copy of the warcaller out. Can my opponent respond and cast something like Hero's Downfall on the warcaller to prevent it, or would he have had to cast it before I chose the target?

There appears to be a bit of a misunderstanding between you and your opponent.

You don't actually pay any costs for Felhide Spiritbinder 's ability until the ability resolves. However, you choose the target when you put the ability onto the stack. At that point, players must pass priority to resolve the ability. If your opponent responds to the ability by destroying its target, then the ability will fizzle. You won't pay and costs, and you won't get any tokens.

Thanks for the clarification, that's how we played it... except I did pay the cost.
