What happens to enchantments if I exile the creature?

Asked by WhySoLimey 12 years ago

If a creature has an enchantment attached and is exiled with a Detention Sphere , for example, what happens to the enchantment? And what happens when the creature comes back into play after the sphere is removed?

The enchantment no longer has a legal target, so it goes to the graveyard, and stays there even if the exiled creature comes back into play.

An Aura that is enchanting nothing (in this case, it's because the creature it was attached to got exiled) is put into its owner's graveyard as a state-based action. It won't come back from the graveyard if the creature somehow returns to play.

Did you just answer your question? Well, the enchantment stays in play. You remove it, the creature exiled comes back.

@kfcl: Auras only target as spells. Aura permanents don't have targets.

@Busse: That's completely incorrect. We're talking about the Aura attached to the creature, not the Detention Sphere .

@Epochalyptik

Yes, I'm afraid I was using the term a little loosely, I meant it no longer had a 'thing to enchant'. Better choose my words carefully while you're around :P
