What Does Torpor Orb prevent?
Asked by DukeNicky 13 years ago
The question is easy enough, can i use Torpor Orb to prevent the negative effects of summoning creatures? Such as Leveler and Eater of Days ?

603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as [Trigger condition], [effect], and begin with the word when, whenever, or at. They can also be expressed as [When/Whenever/At] [trigger event], [effect].
Since both of those abilities begin with 'when', they are triggered abilities and thus prevented by torpor orb. Cards like Iona, Shield of Emeria are not effected by Torpor Orb since 'as' does not mean an ability is triggered.

I should note that Torpor orb also doesn't affect bloodthirst or "enters with +1/+1 counters" type effects, as those are not triggered abilities. They are replacement effects.

All instances of "comes into play" have been replaced with "enters the battlefield" for flavor reasons. The two mean the exact same thing.

Yes, Torpor Orb prevents all "when _ enters the battlefield." effects
