What can Ground Seal stop?
Asked by Annditel 12 years ago
Hi! I was not sure about the wording here, "cards in graveyards can't be the target of spells or abilities" Does this include Scavenge/Flashback/Regenerate? I.E. Can you still use the abilities of things in the graveyard?
Also, would it stop cards like Rest in Peace from exiling everything going to the Graveyard?
Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to say:
Again, that doesn't mean that you can't use flashback, if something already has it. It merely means you couldn't give something flashback.
Same with something like Disentomb . Useless if Ground Seal is out.

Only spells and abilities that target cards in graveyards will be affected.
Abilities that don't target cards in graveyards (like Tormod's Crypt has) can still affect those cards (since it targets a player)
Since things like Scavenge and Flashback are not targeting a card in the graveyard, they can be used. Also, regenerated creatures never go to the graveyard (Merely becomes tapped and removed from combat).
However, let's say you cast Snapcaster Mage , which states "When Snapcaster Mage enters the battlefield, target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn. The flashback cost is equal to its mana cost.", you wouldn't be able to use that ability since that is actually targeting a card in a graveyard, which Ground Seal prevents.
