Waste not/ deck mill

So the card Waste Not has 3 discard abilities. My friend has 2 of Sphinx's Tutelage on the field. He is saying that Sphinx's Tutelage counts as discard. Is this right?

A card is only "discarded" if it was taken out of a player's hand with a cost or effect that specifically says "discard". 99.99% of the time the discarded card will go into the graveyard, but there are some effects in the game that can make it go somewhere else (usually exile, sometimes the library). A card going from a player's library to the graveyard will never count as a discard.

Well, Tutelage has an activated ability that counts as discard, but only because it specifically uses the word 'discard' (which means put a card from your hand into your graveyard, just in case you see it on older cards).
The triggered ability that triggers whenever they draw a card doesn't cause discard, but the change of zones from the library to the graveyard. It will not trigger Waste Not.
