Vault of the Archangel in a Red/White Deck

Asked by AxfordArmories 9 years ago

I know you cant have something in a edh deck that produces things like tokens that contradict the commanders color but what about something like vault of the archangel in my red/white angel deck?

Vault of the Archangel has a color identity of BW because it contains the mana symbol for B in its activation cost. Therefore, you cannot have it in a RW Commander deck. By the way, this belongs in the Rules Q&A forum.

Actually, you're incorrect about the tokens. You can absolutely have an effect that produces tokens that happen to be off color.

For example, you can run Captain's Claws in a non-white Commander deck. Color words don't matter in Commander.

You determine which cards are legal for inclusion based on the color identities of those cards. Color identity includes the colored mana symbols in a card's mana cost and rules text as well as color indicators in its type line(s) and characteristic-defining abilities. Color words do not affect color identity.
