Urabrask the Hidden and Gideon's Avenger

Asked by azim6212002 13 years ago

So, I have Urabrask the Hidden and card:Gideon's Avenger on the battlefied. When an opponent's casts a creature, does card:Gideon's Avenger get +1/+1 counter because it ETB tapped because of Urabrask the Hidden ?

If it doesn't, then I think I'd have to scratch this deck idea. deck:jurabrask-tap-tap-revenge

For effects that use the word "become", to "become" something means "first it wasn't, but now it is". Because Urabrask the Hidden causes things to enter the battlefield tapped, there was never a time when they were on the battlefield untapped. That means they never "became" tapped, and card:Gideon's Avenger won't trigger. The following is the relevant text from the Comprehensive Rules:

603.2d Some trigger events use the word "becomes" (for example, "becomes tapped" or "becomes blocked"). These trigger only at the time the named event happens - they don't trigger if that state already exists or retrigger if it persists. Similarly, they don't trigger if an object enters a zone in that state. Example: An ability that triggers when a permanent "becomes tapped" triggers only when the status of a permanent that's already on the battlefield changes from untapped to tapped.

Owh..Thanks for the very detailed answers. This makes things a little bit complicated for the deck then.

only if your depending on urabrask to tap the creatures for you, if you have other things to tap creatures then its ok, but if he is the only reason you have red in the deck than you might think about takeing red out of the deck
