Upkeep card draw while opponent has Shrieking Affliction?

Asked by -Fulcrum 11 years ago

I had 1 card in hand and Phyrexian Arena on the field while the oppnent had Shrieking Affliction out. My question is which trigger resolves first? Do I get to draw and therefore dodge the Shrieking Affliction trigger, or does my opponent's trigger resolve first?

When multiple abilities trigger at the same time, if they don't have the same controller, then they are put onto the stack in APNAP (active player, next active player) order. Simply put. First, the player whose turn it is put his or her triggers (if any) onto the stack, then the player who would play next does so, and so on until all triggers have been put onto the stack. Then they begin resolving in the usuall first in-last out order, which in this situation makes your opponent's Shrieking Affliction resolve first, your Phyrexian Arena second.

Triggers go onto the stack in APNAP order (Active Player-Non Active Player), and as it is your turn, your phyrexian arena will go onto the stack first, then the other will go onto the stack. They will resolve from top to bottom, meaning the Shrieking Affliction will resolve first, making you lose three life, and then you will draw the card from the arena and lose one extra life.

However, if you manage through other means to increase your hand to two or more cards while the trigger is on the stack, it will resolve, see that you no longer meet the requirements andnot make you lose three life.

You'll take 3 in this situation.

Both will trigger at the same time, and when multiple players have objects waiting to go on the stack they put them onto the stack in active player/inactive player order (APNAP).

You're the active players so you'll put your Phyrexian Arena trigger on first, and then your opponent will put his Shrieking Affliction trigger on, which will then resolve first.
