ulamog and surgical extraction

Asked by Dirt3pz 12 years ago

im sitting here playing a game with a friend... i am playing turbo fog and im discarding an Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre to shuffle my graveyard into my library...

my friend wants to cast Surgical Extraction on the Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre ,.. what happens?

  1. the ulamog gets exiled and i dont get to shuffle my graveyard into my library.
  2. the ulamog cant be targeted because of how it works and my library is gone before it trickers.
  3. the ulamog gets exiled, but the effect still happens and i get to shuffle my graveyard into my library.

and surgical extraction

Number 3 would be the effect. Once he hits the Graveyard, his trigger goes on the stack and is then independent of the source. When it triggers, your opponent will get priority to cast Surgical Extraction while Ulamog is in the GY, which will resolve, exiling all Ulamogs from the game and then Ulamog's ability will finish resolving.

:( we agreed on option number 1... well im happy to hear that surgical extraction dont counter this way of gaining a bigger deck.
