Trigger rules for Recycle

Asked by Sizzlewump 11 years ago

If I have Recycle out and I play Elvish Pioneer , will the enchantment trigger when the pioneer puts my land out?

The "play" keyword is definitely meant so that when you play lands from your hand that it will trigger Recycle , but you in all technicality aren't playing the land when you use the effect of Elvish Pioneer . This is due to it being "put on the battlefield" and not necessarily played, so I would lean on the side of it not allowing you to draw that extra card.

To play a land is to take that land card from its current zone (usually the hand) and put it onto the battlefield by using an available "land drop" on your turn. Putting a land onto the battlefield as part of the resolution of a spell or ability does not count as playing a land, and it does not use a land drop or trigger Recycle .
