Transform and Devotion

Asked by crimson_shade 11 years ago

Say I have a Bloodline Keeper  Flip on the field, he's currently providing me with 2 devotion to black. Once he flips/transforms into Lord of Lineage  Flip , does he still add 2 to my total devotion or does he now provide nothing?

"The back face of a double-faced card doesn't have a mana cost; a double-faced permanent with its back face up has a converted mana cost of 0." -MTG Salvation Wiki

Lord of Lineage  Flip will provide no devotion since he has no converted mana cost.

As a back face up Bloodline Keeper  Flip no longer has a mana cost, it will not add to your devotion. Here are the relevant rulings -

While a double-faced permanent's back face is up, it has only the characteristics of its back face. The back face doesn't have a mana cost; it has the colors in its color indicator (see rule 202.2e), if any.

A player's devotion to [color] is equal to the number of mana symbols of that color among the mana costs of permanents that player controls.

A transformed creature has no mana cost/symbols and adds nothing to devotion.

Thanks for the quick reply. Figured as much...I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any "since it's the same card, the mana cost is still technically there" business going on.
