Thrummingbird + Animate dead, does it deal combat damage?
Asked by benosmash 11 years ago
I recently used Animate Dead on a Thrummingbird and attacked a player without it being blocked. None of us were exactly sure how that should work out so we err'd on the side of caution and said it didn't deal combat damage. However, I'm curious to know if it did deal combat damage, even though it dealt zero damage, and whether I could have proliferated.
510.1a Each attacking creature and each blocking creature assigns combat damage equal to its power. Creatures that would assign 0 or less damage this way don't assign combat damage at all.
According to the rules, a creature with zero power doesn't assign combat damage at all. It doesn't "deal zero damage"; it doesn't deal damage. Anything that triggers off of that won't apply.

No, it would become a 0/1 and the opponent would not take any damage.
