This question involves layers. nim deathmantle and mephidross vampire?
Asked by Ohthenoises 13 years ago
Ok this question s not for those new to magic but I can foresee that this situation might arise now and I am a bit worried.
I have out Nim Deathmantle and I have out Mephidross Vampire what is the creature type(s) on the creature Nim Deathmantle is equipped to?
Also, in a similar vein, if I were to ping a creature THEN attach the mantle what would the creature be? and what would it be if i pinged AFTER equipping?
Sorry for the multiple questions and any confusion this might cause.

I have out Nim Deathmantle and I have out Mephidross Vampire what is the creature type(s) on the creature Nim Deathmantle is equipped to?It depends on the order things ocurred. If the Deathmantle was equipped first, and then the vmephidross comes out, then the creature will be a Zombie vampire (Zombie from deathmantle, then with the vampire creature type added on from the mephidross. If the mephidross is out, and then the deathmantle is equipped to a creature, the mcreature will be a zombie. (It's normal type + vampire then set to zombie. Final result is just a zombie)
Also, in a similar vein, if I were to ping a creature THEN attach the mantle what would the creature be?It would be a zombie. The Deathmantle sets the creature's subtype to zombie but does not keep its other types.
and what would it be if i pinged AFTER equipping?A vampire zombie. The ability making it a vampire (key note= in addition to its other types) has a later timestamp here than the equipment does.

1/1/2011 Nim Deathmantle's color-changing and type-changing effects override the equipped creature's previous colors and creature types. After Nim Deathmantle becomes equipped to a creature, that creature will be a black Zombie, not any other colors or creature types.
The original creature will lose it's original status and become a black zombie, then with the static effect of the mephidross vampire, it becomes a vampire as well as it is two static effects.
With the olivia case, obviously attaching the mantle will lose its vampire creature status. When you've pinged it AFTER equipping the deathmantle is a little tricky but I believe it will both since it is a static effect and thus both are static effects that do not interact with each other.
This is how I would interpret this situation, however I certainly understand waiting for Epochalyptik to respond as it is tricky.

(I hate layers SO much -.-) thanks goblins. So an easy way to remember it is when the Nim Deathmantle goes on it wipes it free of any and all creature types it had previously including anything that is static.

Basically.
When Nim Deathmantle becomes attached to something, it gains a new timestamp. Due to this (and its wording) it will erase all previous creature types and place a big stamp of ZOMBIE onto it.
anything occurring after Deathmantle is equipped, will overwrite zombie (unless as the Mephidross says, or Olivia, "in addition to its other types"

Note that "static" doesn't really factor in here. Anything that is generating a continuous effect (like Olivia's ability, which is not a static ability) that applies in the same layer as another continuous effect will be applied in timestamp order.

Ah. and I would assume there are better 2 drops, or the fact you have to pay 4 to bring the creature back may be discouraging some. if you can make it work in your area, go for it :)

OH sorry another question that I didn't notice before. (hope y'all haven't unsubbed yet)
If a creature would die and I were to use Nim Deathmantle s 4 ability to return said creature to the battlefield what would it be then?

It would be a zombie. Just like if you were to activate the equip ability and attach it to the creature that way.

AH sorry.
Edit: Also, in a similar vein, if I were to ping a creature with Olivia Voldaren
THEN attach the mantle what would the creature be? and what would it be if I pinged AFTER equipping?
