Teysa, Orzhov Scion

Asked by abdulbaqr 12 years ago

I feel like I should know this....but i could see it going both ways. If I have token black creatures, like say vampires from Sorin, Lord of Innistrad that die, does that make a spirit token from Teysa, Orzhov Scion ? She says when it is placed in the graveyard, so my feeling is no since tokens just get exiled when they would be put in the graveyard.

Actually, tokens do hit the graveyard. They cease to exist as a state-based action right afterwards, but they do still die in the proper sense of the term. You'll get your spirit tokens whenever a black creature token dies.

"Dies" is simply a shortened variant of the phrase "put into a graveyard from the battlefield." All that matters is that tokens actually die, not whether they remain in the graveyard after that.

Does that mean that you could return them to the field with a card that says "return all creatures put into the graveyard this turn"? Would they fizzle before it occurs?

card:Faith's Reward returns cards form the graveyard to the battlefield. since the tokens are exiled, they cannot be found by the card so they remain in exile.

The tokens aren't in exile, they just don't exist. They cease to exist as a state-based action after they are put into a zone other than the battlefield. Therefore, they don't stick around long enough for you to even cast or activate something to bring them back let alone be returned by it.
