Temmet as commander?

Asked by ticked-off-squirrel 6 years ago

I want to know a few questions and rulings if I have Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun as commander.

1: if he dies can I let him die then embalm him and if he dies a second time can I put him back in my command zone?

2: if this does work would he go back to the command zone normal or embalmed?

3: if 1 works and he is embalmed would he cost 0, 2 (UW), or 4 (UW2) to bring out?

4: as I exile him to embalm him can I put the original copy back in my command zone and still get the token?

1&2&4: If he dies normally you can put him in your graveyard. If you then embalm him, the original card goes to the command zone and the token stays on the battlefield.

3: The cost for enbalming always stays the same, only the casting cost from your command zone rises.

5: can I choose to make the embalmed version of him go to the command zone instead of his normal self or would the token just die and his normal self goes to the command zone?

5: When you embalm the card you get the token onto the battlefield. When a Creature gets enbalmed the card gets exiled. If the card getting exiled is your commander you can put it in the command zone.Only your commanders can be put in the command zone.

Also note that the embalmed version is not your commander, it does not deal commander damage. Your Commander will be in the command zone (or exile if you chose to send send it there instead for some reason) while the token is on the battlefield. You could cast your commander while you still have the token, but the legend rule would apply and only let you keep one of them.

  1. Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun enters the battlefield from the command zone for .
  2. He dies and instead of moving him back to the cz, he goes to the graveyard.
  3. From the graveyard, you embalm him to create a token. This exiles the card, allowing it to go back to the cz.
  4. To trigger the ability, you can now use the token, without having the commander return to play.
  5. If the token dies, it is gone immediately, without giving the option for new embalming. To do that, you'd have to put the commander back on the battlefield, for +.
  6. The commander has now become obsolete, and unplayable, because as soon as the commander enters the battlefield again, the token or the commander ceases to exist (Legend rule).
