tap/ mana abilities and summoning sickness
Asked by cbvac 12 years ago
Can I use mana/ tap abilities on opponents turn If I casted the creature on my last turn? For ex. can I transform/ produce a vampire on my opponents turn with Bloodline Keeper Flip since he went through their up keep?
A creatures tap ability can't be used, because summoning sickness states that it can't attack or tap until it spends one upkeep on your turn. Although, a mana ability can be used only if it doesn't require you to tap. So for example, your vampire can be flipped over during your opponent's turn, but you cannot make a token if your creature has summoning sickness.

That's what I thought but I had a dispute with a friend about this the other day.

No. A creature only loses summoning sickness if you have continuously controlled it since the beginning of your most recent turn, not the most recent turn.
