Tail slash and prowess creatures
Asked by Noxxinni 10 years ago
Been working on a Jeskai deck and wondered how Tail Slash works when targeting a creature with prowess. Target creature you control deals damage equal to it's power - am I using the modified prowess strength or is it modified after the instant spell is used?

Short answer: You'll factor in Prowess.
Long answer: If you have say, a Monastery Swiftspear, and you cast Tail Slash in order to damage your opponent's Grizzly Bears, the Swiftspear's Prowess triggers and goes on the stack above Tail Slash. Since the stack resolves Last In, First Out, that trigger will resolve before Tail Slash does, and the Swiftspear's power will be increased by 1 before Tail Slash checks to see how much damage to do.
