Sun Titan + Ordeal

Asked by Brastus 9 years ago

Sun Titan Attacks, while enchanted by Ordeal of Nylea and has its 3rd or more, +1/+1 counter placed. Can you sacrifice the Ordeal for its ability, and then bring it back and put it back on Sun Titan? or will the titan's ability (assuming you have nothing else to animate) fizzle?

Short answer no.
Longer answer:
When Sun Titan attacks both its ability and the ability on Ordeal of Nylea trigger and you place those triggers on the stack in which ever order you choose. Part of placing those triggers on stack is choosing targets for them if they require targets (contain the word target). Sun Titan 's ability requires a target so you have to choose a card in the graveyard before either of the abilities resolve. Since Ordeal of Nylea is not yet in the graveyard it is not a valid target for the ability.

Since the Ordeal of Nylea is still on the battlefield when the Sun Titan 's ability goes on the stack, it isn't a valid target for the ability. You'd have to wait until you next attack with the Sun Titan to bring the Ordeal back.
