Stealing Creatures and Proteus Staff?

Asked by DaggerV 11 years ago

Came to ask this question when I seen the former one, but it was worded in such a way I don't think I understood it right. After re-reading the card a few time I started to think card doesn't work way I kinda thought it would. So basically I use Chamber of Manipulation to take control of my opponent's creature. I then turn around and activate Proteus Staff .

So what pretty much happens is their creature gets tucked back into their library, since it cant' exist in my own, and since they were the owner of the card, they reveal cards from top of their library till they reveal a creature and put it into play? Is this what is meant by flooding?

Proteus Staff instructs the creature's controller to reveal cards from the top of his or her library. The card goes to the bottom of the owner's library, though.

What about flooding?

I have no clue, they mentioned flood, and it's one of those million MTG sub-terms I don't know. So I get to have the benefits of the staff? That pretty much answers the question, the other topic made it sound like the owner of the card got to do both.

Which topic?

If you control the creature when it gets put onto the bottom of its owner's library, then you will be the player who reveals cards from the top of his or her library. The distinction between owner and controller is important in situations like this one.

Flooding normally refers to when you draw too many of a particular card or type of card (e.g. mana flooding). I don't think I've ever seen or heard it used in a context that could relate to Proteus Staff .

No, the owner and the controller of a card are two separate things. The owner is the person who actually owns the card, and this does not change at any point during the game. The controller is the person who has the card under their control, on their side of the the battlefield.

what would happen here is that the creature would return to the bottom of its owner's library, then you as the controller of the card when Proteus Staff was activated would reveal cards until a creature was revealed, put that creature into play, and then return the rest of the cards revealed to the bottom of your library in any order you chose.

Thanks for the answers, I was worried since my EDH deck was going to abuse the staff some.

I don't know how to do links on here but this is the topic I was referring to, wording is off so I may misunderstand.

The Flooding that was mentioned in the original topic was referring to more of a "Cascade" effect, where you reveal cards until you reveal a creature in this case. I don't know why it was referred to as Flooding.
