Stack resolution with Evolutionary Leap and multiple 'dies' triggers

Asked by LordJello 9 years ago

Greetings!

In our example today we have a Evolutionary Leap, Catacomb Sifter + Scion token and a Smothering Abomination in play.

We activate Evolutionary Leap saccing the token. This is done as part of the cost to activate the ability.

Does the leap then resolve? Or do the other two triggers resolve first? Or can I choose?

As an add-on question: Does 'when a creature dies' trigger at the same time as 'when you sacrifice a creature'?

Thanks in advance.

Your triggers will go on to the stack on top of Evolutionary Leap's activated ability. And you can decide in what order they will resolve in, but Evolutionary Leap will resolve last because it was put on to the stack initially.

An ability that triggers during the casting or activation process will always wait until that process is complete; then, it will be placed onto the stack above the spell or ability that triggered it.

If you control multiple triggered abilities that have triggered since the last time a player received priority, you put them onto the stack in the order of your choosing.

Sacrificing a creature immediately causes it to die. And remember that the abilities won't be stacked until after the activation process anyway.

So Evolutionary Leap's ability will always be on the bottom of the stack, but you choose the order of the two triggered abilities that follow it.
