Stack Question

MY Opponent Has A Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm He Pays 2 And Is About To Shuffle It Into His Deck And As A Response I Cast Gut Shot. What Happens? Does The Mirror-Mad Go To The Graveyard? Can My opponent Cast Mirror-Mads effect Again?

Your opponent can put the effect on to the stack again and shuffle Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm into his library. Then your Gut ShotMTG Card: Gut Shot would resolve and fizzle because the original target is gone. Then the first activation would resolve and that would fizzle as well because the Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm that you have on the field right now is not the one that you had on the field to begin with

What jewrummer said is right but will only work if Mirror-mad's controller has the mana to use the ability again. If not then your gut shot will kill Mirror-mad and it will be placed in it's owners graveyard.

The stack resolves like this:

  1. Ability is put onto stack
  2. Gut ShotMTG Card: Gut Shot is put onto stack
  3. Gut ShotMTG Card: Gut Shot resolves, killing Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm
  4. Ability cannot be resolved as Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm has left the field, so it fizzles. Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm does NOT shuffle in anyway. It does NOT shuffle from the graveyard. Your opponent CANNOT shuffle their library just because they feel like it

If they choose to activate it again:
  1. Ability is put onto stack
  2. Gut ShotMTG Card: Gut Shot is put onto stack
  3. Ability is put onto stack
  4. Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm's ability resolves, shuffling Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm in, then revealing until Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm is put onto the field
  5. Gut ShotMTG Card: Gut Shot fizzles and is put into the owner's graveyard as the Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm is now considered a new object
  6. Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm's ability fizzles as the Mirror-Mad PhantasmMTG Card: Mirror-Mad Phantasm is now considered a new object

The accepted answer is correct, but I feel that I should point out that the ability does not actuall "fizzle." It is not countered (what fizzle implies), it just does nothing since the phantasm's owner cannot shuffle it into his library, and the rest of the ability has the dependent "if that player does, . . ." clause.
