Splice onto Arcane

Asked by aarontoomey 11 years ago

If I have Soul of Magma on the Battlefield and Kami of Fire's Roar on the field and I cast Glacial Ray and Splice First Volley and Psychic Puppetry onto it.WillI be able to Deal up to 3 damage with Soul of Magma and cause 3 creatures to not block this turn with Kami of Fire's Roar or just 1 damage with Soul of Magma and 1 Creature to not block this turn with Kami of Fire's Roar ?

When you Splice onto Arcane, all you are doing is adding the text of that card onto the Arcane spell on the stack. Splice onto Arcane itself is an Activated Ability. You will only get 1 trigger from each of Soul of Magma and Kami of Fire's Roar .

Splice into Arcane isn't an activated ability (it's not written as "Cost : Effect"). It's a special kind of copy effect that adds an additional cost to cast the spell you're splicing onto. The reason it's important to make this distinction is because it means a splice can't be copied by Rings of Brighthearth .

Sorry Rhad, I just assumed it was a sort of activated ability, I've never actually used Splice Onto Arcane before. The rest is still correct though.

Also, from the explanation of your casting, @aarontoomey, you stated that you were casting Glacial Ray and splicing on First Volley and Psychic Puppetry . As First Volley doesn't have Splice onto Arcane, in order to get all the cards effects, you would have to cast First Volley and splice Glacial Ray and Psychic Puppetry onto it.

Cards with Splice onto Arcane have their text added to a different Arcane spell on the stack.

drakanar I just now relized that mistake thanks for pointing it out but it was just an example more or less though.
