Spellskite Tricks

Can I use Spellskite 's ability on counter spell? Since counter is a target spell it is a legal target. But Spellskite is not a legal target for a a counter spell, so what will happen?
Also, can i use spellskite to steal equipments? Since Equip is an ability, changing the target to spellskite will attach the equipment to spellskite. Is this possible?

In both cases, you're allowed to activate Spellskite's ability because it has no restrictions on what kind of spell or ability it can target. However, nothing will happen when Spellskite's ability resolves. If an effect would change the targets of something, the targets only get changed if the new set of targets would be legal. Like user:DonMiguel says, Spellskite isn't a legal target for Counterspell (not a spell), nor is it a legal target for an opponent's equip ability (not a creature your opponent controls).

but there are lots of things it is good for, like stezling your opponent's auras, tumble magnet activations, or frost / inferno titan triggered abilities.

a trick that could work is if you do ave Spellskite in play and one of your important spells gets targeted by a Mana Leak you can change the target of Mana Leak to Spellskite so the counter spell will not affect the spell you casted.

LikeMike: as previously stated, that doesn't work. spellskite's ability would go on the stack at that point, but would do nothing when it resolved, because spellskite is not a legal target for mana leak; the mana leak would stay on the stack with its original target. spellskite's ability only works if spellskite would be a legal target for the targeted spell or ability.

obviously... "U/P: counter target spell that targets at least one permanent" (or thereabouts) is pretty damn good. but that's not what it does, so it's irrelevant.

1 No, because Spellskite is a permanent and no longer a spell.
2 No, because equip can only target creatures you control. I guess you could use Spellskite on your own equipments.
