Spear of Heliod vs prot. white

Asked by WalzY 11 years ago

If my opponent's Blood Baron of Vizkopa hits me for 4 damage, can I then kill it with Spear of Heliod or does protection from white prevent this?

Best way to remember what protection does is D.E.B.T.

A permanent with protection from X can't be -

  • Damaged
  • Enchanted/Equipped
  • Blocked
  • Targeted

By any spell, ability or permanent of X color.

Spear of Heliod 's ability states "Destory target creature" which it is unable to due because of Blood Baron of Vizkopa 's protection from white.

I DISAGREE, THE SPEAR ITSELF IS AN ARTIFACT, AND ALL ARTIFACTS (REGARDLESS OF THERE CASTING COLOR) ARE TREATED AS COLORLESS WHEN IN PLAY

As a judge, I can assure that that is incorrect Tcsnake. A card's type has no impact on its color identity. Most artifacts are colorless because they are frequently colorless, artifacts that have color mana in there casting costs are artifacts of that color.

The only difference between a colored artifact and a colorless artifact is, obviously, its color. Unlike most artifacts, a colored artifact requires colored mana to play. Also unlike most artifacts, a colored artifact has a color in all zones. It will interact with cards that care about color. Other than that, a colored artifact behaves just like any other artifact. It will interact as normal with any card that cares about artifacts, such as Shatter or Arcbound Ravager.

Sorry I just got done playing fallout New Vegas and had Caps lock hot-keyed didn't mean to shout lol. But I have been playing wrong for years then, you learn something new every day. I was told by another "official judge" this was the case. It even stood up to win a match for me at a local tournament. guess I should look into letting the other guy know.
