Snapcaster Mage + Sorceries
Asked by IAmKingTony 13 years ago
Yesterday I lost a game due to my opponent using a Snapcaster Mage to grab a Day of Judgment on my turn to wipe my board... Caught me off guard because I figured that even when flashbacking that a sorcery needed to be played at sorcery speed. I let it slide but I'm still not sure that was a legal play... What's the verdict?

Snapcaster Mage lets all of the cards in your graveyard gain flashback. Flashback just means you cast the spell as you normally would, just from the graveyard.
In summary, your opponent made an illegal move. While the Snapcaster Mage can be played at any time, the Day of Judgment can only be played when sorcery cards are able to be played, even if given flashback. Not only did your opponent play the Day of Judgment at instant speed, which is illegal, he played it during your turn which makes it even worse.
Even if it was his turn, Day of Judgment is a sorcery and can't be played in response to anything, it must be played as a sorcery always.
