Shahrazad - Wish effects Interaction

Asked by ChaosJester 1 year ago

Hey guys,

Shahrazad resolves in the main game and a subgame starts. Is it now possible to Burning Wish for a Shahrazad in the first subgame from the main game, then start a second subgame in which I Wish for the previous Shahrazad, and so on?

Thank you!

You could do that.

724.4a Some effects can bring cards into a game from outside of it. If a card is brought into a subgame from a main game, abilities in the main game that trigger on objects leaving a main-game zone will trigger, but they won’t be put onto the stack until the main game resumes.

Personal side note unrelated to the rules of the matter: I'd be careful abusing a card that is banned in every format it would be legal in. People may decide to not be cool about banned cards, or just stop playing with you if it is kitchen table casual.

Thank you for your answer!

It is now clear that I can grab a Shahrazad from the main game to cast it in the first subgame with Wish effects.

However, will the second subgame starts directly after the wished Shahrazad resolves or is it mandatory to finish the current subgame first?

Thank you!

For clarity I'm going to use some notation to keep clear which game we are discussing at any point. G0 will be the main game G1 the game created from the first Shahrazad and so on.

If you cast a Shahrazad in G1 you will immediately start G2 and the player who loses G2 will lose half of their life in G1. Likewise if you cast a Shahrazad in G2 you will immediately start G3 and the loser will lose life in G2. Subgames start immediately and affect the game they were created in.

This is why Shahrazad is banned in all formats. With Glittering Wish you could conceivably have to play 9 games in a 4-of format to determine a single game.

This is helpful, thank you very much dude. :)

I initially was confused by the following statement that I found in a forum:

“Note that Shahrazad (or a copy of it) can (directly) start only one subgame even if multiple spells named Shahrazad are on the stack".

Thank you!
