Sand squid lockdown
Asked by Shane 12 years ago
Can i use Sand Squid to keep all my opponents creatures tapped if i am able to untap it multiple times in ome turn? Like with Mind Over Matter .
So if i tap all of my opponents creatures on the stack of sand squids ability, and just never uptap him, they all stay tapped?

You can target and tap multiple creatures, but only the last resolved target remains tapped.
611.2b Some continuous effects generated by the resolution of a spell or ability have durations worded "for as long as . . . ." If the "for as long as" duration never starts, or it ends before the moment the effect would first be applied, the effect does nothing. It doesn't start and immediately stop again, and it doesn't last forever.
Example: Master Thief has the ability "When Master Thief enters the battlefield, gain control of target artifact for as long as you control Master Thief." If you lose control of Master Thief before the ability resolves, it does nothing, because its duration -- as long as you control Master Thief -- was over before the effect began.
If you untap Sand Squid before its ability resolves, it does nothing, ie. the target creature does not get tapped.

As Sand Squid 's ability is a continuous effect, the moment it does not fulfill the condition in the "as long as" clause, its effect immediately ends, regardless of how "fast" you do things or stack them up as.

Hmm. I seem to have mixed myself up. Ignore my comment and I'm going to go do some review :)

As long as he doesn't untap after any of the squid's abilities resolve. So you can tap him, then untap him, then tap him again before letting the squid's abilities resolve. then as each resolves it taps a creature and keeps it tapped until the next point where the squid is no longer tapped.
