Sacrifice a Creature that is getting kill by an instant?
Asked by Zorroxtein 11 years ago
Hello, I was playing with my Brother in law, He cast a creature with the ability of destroy other permanent if is sacrificed.
I play "Go for the throat" for get rid of his creature, he try to sacrifice so he can get rid of one of mine.. Is this OK?
I mean, if my Spell work he don't have creature to sacrifice, if he can sacrifice it, so what happen with my spell then?
Thanks!!

Thanks, that clear everything. I guess my first sentence should say:" I was playing with my Brother in law, He cast a creature who has the ability of destroy other permanent if is sacrificed.'

If the card says:
Sacrifice "Cardname": Destroy target permanent.
Then he can indeed sacrifice it, before a kill spell would destroy it.

That is so. However the only creature that has and/or grants that ability is Necrotic Sliver . Just wanted to be clear with the OP; the actual cards would help big time.

Actually yes, He cast Necrotic Sliver I use Go for the Throat for get rid of it, and then he activated Necrotic Sliver ability for destroy one of my creatures before it goes.

Then yes, Necrotic Sliver 's ability can be added onto the stack ahead of Go for the Throat before Go for the Throat has a chance to resolve.

The situation you're describing is a little unclear.
But as near as I can tell. Yes. When you cast an instant, it goes on the stack, and can be responded to before it resolves. He could sacrifice a creature to anything that allowed sacrificing at instant speed, and it would be gone before Go for the Throat resolved.
Your spell's target would no longer be present upon resolution of the spell, and the game would counter the spell and put it in your graveyard.
