Royal Assassin vs Lightning Bolt

If I have a Royal Assassin and tap it to kill a tapped creature, then someone Lightning Bolts! it. Does the Assassin' ability still happen?

Yes. When an ability is put on the stack it exists independently from the source.

Yes. Once on the stack, an ability exists independently of its source. Killing Royal Assassin doesn't counter its ability.
