Responding to an attack with mirrorweave?

Asked by kaleo_pepper 9 years ago

If there is a riddlekeeper in play, can i respond to an attack before "when this creature attacks" Let's say i have 5 creatures, 1 of them is riddlekeeper, an opponent swings with me with 10 creatures, can i mirrorweave and mill him? or would i have to mirrorweave before the attack, making my plan pretty useless. Also along these lines can i swing with 6 creatures and then mirrorweave them into sun titans? or do i have to mirror weave them into sun titans then swing? (the second example is a little different because you are the one doing the attack.

You would have to cast Mirrorweave before attackers are declared (which happens as a turn based action at the start of the Declare Attackers step before either player has priority in that step) to get the triggers.

No to both. The first thing that happens during the declare attackers step is the active player's turn-based action of declaring attackers. Triggered abilities that trigger for creatures attacking will trigger at this time. Then, they are put onto the stack. After that, players get priority. Anything that happens after that point will not cause "attacks" abilities to trigger because attackers have already been declared; the trigger event has passed. Triggered abilities will not retroactively trigger; they must exist at the time the trigger event occurs. If you want attacks abilities to trigger, you have to make sure they exist by the end of the beginning of combat step, before attackers are declared.
