Rebounding Startled Awake  Flip with Narset

Asked by Krakensbreath52 7 years ago

If I use Narset Transcendent's -3 ability to give Startled Awake  Flip rebound, does it keep it when I return it to my hand? The ability says that it gains rebound, but not until end of turn?

When a spell with Rebound is cast it goes to exile instead of the graveyard. Using Narset's -3 gives your next Instant or Sorcery Rebound, which means it will become exiled as you cast it.

Rebound (If this spell was cast from your hand, instead of putting it into your graveyard as it resolves, exile it and, at the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)

I've always thought that when you cast it out of exile it goes into the graveyard but, you probably know better. Thanks!

Actually the rules say: If you cast a card from exile this way, it will go to your graveyard when it resolves or is countered. It won't go back to exile.

How very strange but you are correct :) we both just learned something new then!

For clarity sake if you choose to not cast the Rebounded spell on your next upkeep it stays in exile though.

You are both correct.

When you initially cast the spell, rebound will send it into exile instead of the graveyard. When you cast it from exile via rebound, it will then resolve and go into your graveyard as normal. If you choose not to cast it from exile, it remains in exile.
