Reaper from the Abyss morbid question

Asked by Nephilim 11 years ago

Reaper from the Abyss 's morbid states "At the beginning of each end step, if a creature died this turn, destroy target non-Demon creature." My question is this, does the Reaper have to be in play when the creature died to "see" it for this to trigger, or does the smell of death linger (so to speak) so that it still triggers. Generally I'd think that since the Reaper wasn't there to witness the death it doesn't trigger, but the wording just makes it feel a bit... off.

If I understand your question correctly, Reaper from the Abyss has to be on the battlefield because the effect emanates from Reaper from the Abyss .

No, the Reaper does not need to be in play when the creature died.

raithe000 is correct. The ability just checks whether its condition is true, and that condition is whether a creature died this turn. The Reaper doesn't need to be present at the time of death. It actually wouldn't even be possible for nonpermanent cards with Morbid, like Tragic Slip, to witness creatures' death.

If a creature died during your combat phase then you played Reaper from the Abyss During your second main phase then his ability will still activate.
