Ratchet Bomb and transformed cards

Asked by kevinmtg24 13 years ago

I know that if i pop a Ratchet Bomb with no counters on it it will destroy all tokens. Does this work the same with transformed cards like Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip or is the converted mana cost the same cost as Garruk Relentless  Flip  FlipMTG Card: Garruk, the Veil-Cursed

The way they wrote the rules for transforming cards was so that you could get all of their current characteristics just from what's currently visible on the card. That means that since there's no mana cost given on the back side, it doesn't have one with that face up, and the CMC derived from the blank mana cost is indeed 0.

The back face of a double-faced card is marked with a moon symbol, lacks a mana cost, and has a color indicatorthat's the dot on its type linethat tells you what color it is. The two faces of a double-faced card are often the same color, but not always. The back face's characteristics matter only if the card is on the battlefield and its back face is showing. Otherwise, only the front face's characteristics count. (For example, Gatstaf Shepherd's converted mana cost when it's in your deck is 2, not zero.)

The answer to your question is YES. It has no Converted Mana Cost. You could use Ratchet Bomb with no counters on it to blow it up.
