Quietus Spike and Double Strike

Asked by ErebusX 11 years ago

Lets say I have a Quietus Spike attached to a creature with double strike, Mirran Crusader for instance. The opponent had no flyers or reach and Mirran Crusader had flying because of Wings of Hope . Since it cannot be blocked, does the secondary ability/effect on Quietus Spike trigger twice because of double strike?

Yes, Quietus Spike triggers each time the creature does combat damage. So in your example, let's assume your opponent is still at 20 life, it would go like this:

Mirran Crusader would deal 3 damage in the first strike step. Causing the spike to trigger. You're opponent would go from 17 down to 8 (Quietus Spike rounds up the life lost). In the normal combat damage strike your Crusader would hit again taking your opponent to 5, and Quietus Spike would trigger again taking them down to 2.

you mean 3, it would round up again...

The amount of Life Lost is rounded up. So it's halving your opponents life then rounding down. Admittedly it's pretty confusing.
