question concerning interaction between Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts and Festering Newt

If I have Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts out and my opponent has a Festering Newt and a Bogbrew Witch out and Festering Newt dies, does Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts protection from creatures prevent the -4/-4 since it came from Festering Newt ?

Yes it will. Protection prevents DEBT (Damage, Equip/Enchanting, Blocking, and Targeting) of spells and effects with the protected attribute. Festering Newt 's triggered ability is from a creature, so her protection will prevent her from being a legal target for it.
