question about revolt

Asked by abenz419 7 years ago

Lets say I have something that will leave the battlefield at end of turn... like from Saheeli Rai's -2 ability and I have Solemn Recruit in play. Does revolt trigger every end step and check on resolution, or does it only trigger if something already left meaning the token getting exiled at end of turn is too late?

Revolt is an ability word that refers calls attention to an ability caring about permanents you controlled leaving the battlefield. As it can appear in a number of different contexts, not all the rules will be the same.

Solemn Recruit has an ability that triggers at the beginning of the End Step and has an 'Intervening If' clause for the Revolt condition. The way Interviening If clauses work is that they must be true for the condition to trigger and also must be true on resolution. The second part of that is less relevant for the Revolt condition, as something having left the battlefield is not going to become untrue later in the turn, but the first part is important here. If you've not had a permanent you control leave the battlefield by the time your End Step starts Solemn Recruit's ability will not trigger, even though the token created by Saheeli is about to leave.

OK, then my next question would be..... Does Solemn Recruit have to on the battlefield when the permanent leaves the battlefield for it's ability to trigger in combat. For example, I have Kari Zev, Skyship Raider in play and I go to combat. When I attack with Kari she creates a monkey token, then that token is exiled at end of combat. Could I play Solemn Recruit in my second main phase and have her ability trigger because the condition will have been met, or does she have to be on the battlefield and see the permanent leave for it to trigger?

It does not have to see the permanent leave. All it cares about is was the condition met, not did I see the condition get met.
