Question about Polymorphist's Jest

Asked by disposingjayce 10 years ago

How would Polymorphist's Jest work against creatures with flying? Since flying is as far as i know a static ability and the card clearly states "loses all abilities". I've seen conflicting statements on this.

First, rules questions should be asked in the Q&A, which is linked in the header. I can't move this to the Q&A, so I'm moving it to BE.

Second, you answered your own question. Flying is a static ability. Creatures lose all abilities, so they lose flying.

If a creature that can only block creatures with flying, like Cloud Sprite , and it blocks the flying creatures, and Polymorphist's Jest is cast, the creature will still be blocked by that creature.

However, if a flying creature is attacking, and before blocks have been declared, Polymorphist's Jest is cast, the creature will no longer have flying and it can be blocked by creatures without flying or reach.

The reason I asked this is because I read on a few different threads that this would not effect flying but if you whipped this card out before you declare your blockers it should eliminate the flying due to how the card reads. I just wanted some clarification and to be sure I was correct in my assumption before I whip this card out on a friend of mine on Wednesday night.

disposingjayce, yep! That's how it works. I recently asked a question about Humility , and those answers with some research I did on my own showed me this: if a creature loses all abilities, it LITERALLY become a vanilla creature immediately. It can still be GIVEN abilities, but any abilities given to it before it loses the abilities fall off.
