Question about Dictate of Erebos
Asked by hrbj 10 years ago
helloI have Dictate of Erebos on the battlefield. After my attack opponent killed my 3 creatures. So, my question is: does the opponent sacrifice 3 creatures ? Or just one?
So how the whole process looks like?for example:I attacked an opponent with 3x Master of the Feast , each my attacking creature were killed. Opponent kills own creatures in bulk (3 creatures) after "fight", or each time my creature die?

First, fight is only used to refer to a specific mechanic that has two creatures deal noncombat damage to one another. It is not used to describe combat damage.
Whenever X creatures you control die, Dictate of Erebos 's ability will trigger X times. Each trigger means a separate ability on the stack. These abilities resolve one at a time, and the opponent must sacrifice one creature per ability. Significantly, the ability doesn't target, and the choice isn't made until resolution, so there's no way for your opponent to get away with sacrificing only one creature unless that's the only creature he or she controls.

I'm still confused a little. So, if an ability of Dictate of Erebos goes to the stack during the combat damage step,When we execute cards and abilities from stack?
for example:- as i said I attacked with 3xMaster of the Feast - opponet declared to block my 2 attacking creatures with Desecration Demon and Dawnbringer Charioteers (with 4 counters so it had 6/8)
now it's combat damage step- opponent blocked my 1xMaster of the Feast by Desecration Demon , so my creature dies. - now ability of Dictate of Erebos goes to the stack- opponent blocked my 1xMaster of the Feast by Dawnbringer Charioteers (6/8) with 4 counters, so my creature dies - now ability of Dictate of Erebos goes to the stack
my question is:when the cards/abilities from stack are executed? at the end of the combat damage step, or during combat damage step each time my creature dies?

First, you're still confused about how combat damage is dealt. All combat damage within a single combat damage step is dealt simultaneously. Your two blocked Master of the Feast s will be dealt lethal damage at once. Then, state-based actions will be performed, and those creatures will be destroyed for having lethal damage marked on them. When they go to the graveyard during this process, Dictate of Erebos 's ability will trigger once for each of them. These abilities will be put onto the stack (still during the combat damage step) and will resolve once players pass priority. Note that they're independent abilities, so they resolve one at a time.

From the Gatherer page:
If multiple creatures you control die at the same time, Dictate of Ereboss triggered ability will trigger that many times.
