Puppeteer Clique and Board Wipe

Asked by Tortun 4 years ago

What happens if Puppeteer Clique and another creature dies to a board wipe (or they kill each other), can the ability of Puppeteer Clique be used to take control of the opponents creature that dies together with it? or since the opponents creature is "on the way" to the gravyard, it can't yet bet targeted by Puppeteer Clique ability?

Thanks in advance.

Please link all cards in your question using double brackets.

Puppeteer Clique

There is not really such a thing as "on the way" to zones anymore. If both Puppeteer Clique and an opponent's creature die at the same time they will all enter the graveyard. Then any triggers caused by their deaths (including persist) will go on the stack. Once persist resolves Puppeteer Clique will be returned to the battlefield and its ETB will trigger. Any creature card in an opponent's graveyard is a fair target for the ETB. This includes creatures that died at the same time that it did and are still in the graveyard. Even creatures that died after it did but before persist resolved are legal targets.
