Platinum Angel vs. Laboratory Maniac

Asked by kaesea2 13 years ago

In a two-headed giant game an opponent has Platinum AngelMTG Card: Platinum Angel and I have Laboratory ManiacMTG Card: Laboratory Maniac out. At the beginning of my team's turn I have zero cards in my library. Does the game just continue until either we lose or the Angel is removed?

That's correct. Each time you would draw a card from that library, Laboratory ManiacMTG Card: Laboratory Maniac replaces it with "you win the game", but Platinum AngelMTG Card: Platinum Angel says you can't win the game, so you don't.

614.6. If an event is replaced, it never happens. A modified event occurs instead, which may in turn trigger abilities. Note that the modified event may contain instructions that can't be carried out, in which case the impossible instruction is simply ignored.

Yes the game will still go on:9/22/2011: If for some reason you can't win the game (because your opponent controls Platinum Angel, for example), you won't lose for having tried to draw a card from a library with no cards in it, because the draw was still replaced.
