Perplexing Chimera and Emrakul, the Promised End

Asked by darkmatter32x 8 years ago

My opponent has the chimera and I cast Emrakul, he used the chimera's ability.

How is everything going to resolve?

  • Your opponent casts Emrakul.
  • Before anyone receives priority, both triggers of Emrakul and the Chimera are put onto the stack in APNAP (Active Player, Non-Active Player) order. Your opponent is active, so Emrakul's effect will be on the bottom of the stack, the Chimera's on top.
  • Then your opponent gets and passes priority.
  • The Chimera's ability resolves. You decide to exchange control. Your opponent now controls the Chimera, you control Emrakul (who's still on the stack). This does not change the control of Emrakul's triggered abilty, as effects on the stack exist independently from their source.
  • Emrakul's ability resolves. As your opponent still controls it, nothing unusual happnes. He will control you on your next turn and after that, you will get an extra turn.
  • Emrakul resolves. You took control of the spell, so she will enter the battlefield under your control.

All in all, you will control Emrakul, your opponent will control the Chimera. He will control you on your next turn and after that, you get an extra turn.
