Pay another (2) mana because I copied Stironic's Ability?

Asked by jotjot 10 years ago

I have a Ruric Thar, the Unbowed on the battlefield, as well as Strionic Resonator and Rings of Brighthearth . My opponent casts a non-creature spell activating several abilities. Here is the stack:

-4th: Paid (2) for Rings of Brighthearth's TA (copying Strionic's Ability)-3rd: I activate Strionic's Abitlity(copying Ruric's TA)-2nd: Ruric Thar's punish-1st: opponents non-creature spell(18 damage for 1 non-creature spell.)When Rings of Brighthearth's TA resolves, do I get to pay another (2) mana because I copied Stironic's Ability?

When Ruric Thar's ability triggers, it goes onto the stack. While it is there you may activate Strionic Resonator to copy that ability. Since the Resonator has an activated ability, at the time you activate it, you may pay (2) to the Rings to copy the ability.

So the top of your stack is the copied activation of the Resonator, which you could use to copy the triggered ability of Ruric. Below that is the activation of the Resonator, which is copying the triggered ability of Ruric. Below that is the triggered ability of Ruric. Below that is their spell.

So yes, you'll get 6 damage, 6 damage, 6 damage, and then their spell.
