Palinchron and Phantasmal Image combo clarification
Asked by Grimaldii 12 years ago
Hey Folks!,
I've heard that you can combo Palinchron and Phantasmal Image for infinite mana, and I may consider adding a Palinchron or two to my illusion deck to try out. The only thing is.. I'm staring at these cards and I feel reeeeally thick but I can't figure out exactly how it works. Could someone with great patience explain it to me? Thanks in advance!
Okay, right, I thought the Phantasmal Image would be sacrificed as it's become the target of it's own (Palinchron 's) ability?

Effects in Magic only target something if they use the word "Target" in it. Nowhere in Palinchron 's bounce effect does it target anything, because it does not use that word.

Phantasmal Image never gets targeted, its using its own ability.

The Phantasmal Image enters, copies the Palinchron , triggering seven lands to untap. You tap all seven, getting seven mana. Use 4 mana to bounce the Phantasmal Image . Use 2 mana to replay the Image, untaping seven lands. You now have 1 net mana.
You can repeat this infinitely, getting as much mana as you wish.
