Ordeal of Heliod: Does it stack?

Asked by MonsterFinder221 11 years ago

Hello! I was playing a game when I encountered a problem:

I played 2 Ordeal of Heliod on one of my creatures and attacked,

Does the effect of Ordeal of Heliod and other "Ordeal of X" stack? Will my creature get two +1/+1 counters or only one?

each ordeal is its own separate card. they each put their own triggered ability on the stack and each one resolves individually. the creature would get 2 +1/+1 counters

then the next time you attack with that creature, it'll get 2 more +1/+1 counters and then you'll sacrifice both ordeals (that will all happen before blockers are even declared)

its worth noting that the Ordeals two abilities will trigger and resolve separately. This matters if the creature already has a +1/+1 counter on it, because then only one of the ordeals will be sacrificed.

ah yes, I was just referring to his situation thought, that the first time he attacks they get 2 counters, then the second time he would get another 2 counters as well and they'll be saced for having 3+ counters. Even in that situation though they're resolving separately as you said, and the first one will add a counter see 3 counters and get sac'd and the second will then add it's counter and see 4 and get sac'd

raithe000 both ordeals are sacrifieced whenever the creature attacks and has 3 or more counters. If you enchanted 2 ordeals on 1 creature this would take two attacks give four counters. If you targeted a heroic creature with them it would take one attack and give 4 counters.

@Felixlives no, each ordeal is sacrificed (normally) only when its triggered ability resolves and the creature has 3 or more counters. Here is the scenario where that matters.

If I put both on an Experiment One with one +1/+1 counter on it and then attack with it, each will trigger, the first one to resolve will put a +1/+1 counter on Experiment One, see that it has two +1/+1 counters, and do nothing else. Then the second one will resolve, put a +1/+1 counter on Experiment One, see 3 +1/+1 counters and be sacrificed. The end result will be an Experiment One with 3 +1/+1 counters on it and one Ordeal attached.
