open the vaults into doomwake giant -> what happens to a creature that is returned on death
Asked by Shape_Shifter 7 years ago
To put the board state in perspective:
My opponent has a 0/4 creature on the battle field enchanteds with an effect that says: If this creature would die, instead return it to the battlefield.
At this time i play open the vaults, returning 8 enchantments. I get to decide the order in which they enter the battlefield i've always been told so logically i let doomwake giant enter first and the 7 other enchantments after. This creates a -8/-8 'board wipe'.
Now the question is: What happens to the 0/4 creature?
Possible options we thought of: - The ability of doomwake giant is several -1/-1 effects after eachother, meaning the 0/4 dies after the 4th resolve of the ability, comes back and gets another -4/-4 to handle and is thus completely removed? - The -8/-8 is to be considered as one big hit and thus the 0/4 survives in the end ?
Which one would be most correct?
Thanks in advance!

In the future, please link all cards in your question. It makes it much easier for us to understand what's going on if we can see the cards involved. You can link cards by using double square brackets:

Assuming you mean the ability is "when enchanted creature dies return it to the battlefield" your assesment is correct. The ability you wrote is a replacement effect that replaces leaving the battlefield with something that makes no sense, which should leave the aura attached.
All the enchantments hit the battlefield at the same time, you don't choose the order they enter, this means you cannot return an aura attached to Doomwake Giant. They also all see each other, so even if all 8 of them have Constellation abilities they will all trigger the full 8 times. For Doomwake Giant this is 8 separate instances of -1/-1, so the enemy creature will have -4/-4 with 4 instances sill on the stack, resulting in either an event constantly trying to happen and being replaced by nothing, only to try and happen again resulting in a draw, or with the creature going to the graveyard, followed by the aura, and a new ability triggering, returning it to the field to die anew when the next for triggers resolve.
