Omnath & Overwhelming Stampede.
Asked by Nightwielder 14 years ago
Say Omnath, Locus of Mana is on the field with 10 floating (green mana) in my pool, if I cast Overwhelming Stampede assuming Omnath has the greatest power, wouldn't it give all my guys +11/+11?
eze01 is correct.
When you cast Overwhelming Stampede, it goes onto the stack and, assuming it isn't countered, looks at the field for the creature with the highest attack power among those creatures you control.
If nothing happens to change the greatest power among your creatures, all your creatures would then gain the number of +1/+1 counters that is equal to the highest attack power.
Hope this helps.

The above is also assuming that your omnath isnt destroyed before resolution.

Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly, but if he uses some of that floating mana to cast it, it would only give +6/+6 because 5 of the mana is spent on the stampede itself. However, if you tap lands for the stampede, then yes, +11/+11 to all

Correct... If he were to spend any of that mana that is floating to cast the Stampede, then the omnath would be lowered in attack power in turn affecting the amount of +1/+1 counters he can add to his creatures...
At least they all still get trample... lol

Thanks guys, this was a clarification question because my buddy insisted Overwhelming Stampede only applied to "base" power creatures, sans the buffs. In other words, he didn't think it was fair that if you had something ridiculous like 20+ floating mana, that this effect would apply. This confirms I was right the whole time lol.

Yes and just to clarify, the creatures don't get counters. They get +X/+X until EOT...no counters.

Yea, sorry... My bad... I just keep thinking all the time that they are counters...
Thanks for the clarification...

Yes? Overwhelming Stampede says +X/+X where X is the greatest power... 11 would be the greatest power so it gives +11/+11
