New madness wording vs. Eldrazi
Asked by Lurac 8 years ago
The new madness reminder text tells you that the discarded cards go into exile, and you cast them from there (Fiery Temper for reference). My question is: can you use the BFZ Eldrazi Processor mechanic to kind of counter madness spells before they are cast? I mean like Void Attendant's activated ability, or maybe blinking a Wasteland Strangler. My guess is that the madness player retains priority and gets to move the spell from exile to the stack before you get a chance to respond.
Furthermore, I'm wondering if the madness ability even counts as a triggered ability that uses the stack, or if it just kind of happens.

For reference, the exact new Madness wording:
702.34a Madness is a keyword that represents two abilities. The first is a static ability that functions while the card with madness is in a players hand. The second is a triggered ability that functions when the first ability is applied. "Madness [cost]" means "If a player would discard this card, that player discards it, but exiles it instead of putting it into his or her graveyard" and "When this card is exiled this way, its owner may cast it by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost. If that player doesnt, he or she puts this card into his or her graveyard."
The second ability triggers when the card is in exile, and it's owner gets to cast it on resolution. If you respond to the ability in any way, the card will still be in exile and can be processed, for example.
