Myr Welder + Mimic Vat

Asked by TimProctor 13 years ago

So Myr Welder exiles Mimic Vat and another artifact lets say card:Traveler's Amulet.

Would the activated ability of Mimic Vat create a copy of the exiled card Traveler's Amulet?

I believe so, because the Myr Welder has 2 artifacts imprinted on it, so you could tap it for a copy of Mimic Vat or card:Traveler's Amulet.

You could also use the amulets ability because it's imprinted as well.

No. Mimic Vat uses what are called linked abilities. The first ability is a triggered imprint ability, which exiles a card. The second is an activated ability, which requires information from the first ability in order to do something.

Since Myr Welder only gets the activated ability of Mimic Vat and not the triggered ability, activating its inherited ability will do nothing. The copy-producing effect will not see any imprinted cards from the first ability, since that ability is missing.

607.1. An object may have two abilities printed on it such that one of them causes actions to be taken or objects to be affected and the other one directly refers to those actions or objects. If so, these two abilities are linked: the second refers only to actions that were taken or objects that were affected by the first, and not by any other ability.

No. Because the second ability uses the words "the exiled card", it is referring specifically to the card exiled by the first ability since the two abilities are linked.

No Myr welder can function as a mimic or a traveler's amulet.

I should point out that Myr Welder can use the ability of card:Traveler's Amulet. It's an activated ability.

Although unless you just really needed the mana it would be not such a good move IMO. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

i agree that the welder does not get the triggered ability of the Mimic Vat , but the activated ability (put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of the exiled card, it gain haste, exile it at the beginning of the next end step) could you not create token copies with myr welder, of the last card exiled by the mimic vat? as long as it remains exiled while myr welder has the activated ability?

also, if myr welder can use the traveller's amulet activated ability, but the ability specifically say's "tap-sacrifice traveller's amulet," so if the myr welder is using that ability, does the myr welder not get sacrificed when land searching, due it's name not being traveller's amulet?

Myr Welder does not inherit the information of the cards it imprints. This means it will not know what the last-imprinted card of Mimic Vat was.

Whenever a card references its own name in its text box, it refers to that specific card. Therefore, Myr Welder imprints card:Traveler's Amulet and gains the ability "1, Sacrifice Myr Welder: Search your library for a basic land card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library."
